March 25, 2021

March 25, 2021

The Department of Public Health in the School of Health Professions at the University of Missouri seeks applicants for a full-time tenure/tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in Epidemiology, with research interests in influenza and/or emerging infectious diseases.

The candidate would contribute to collaborative science at the MU Center for Influenza and Emerging Infectious Diseases (CIEID). MU CIEID is a burgeoning initiative that will bring together  infectious disease research across the campus in new and synergistic ways. This position will also contribute in significant ways to the Population Health pillar of the NextGen Precision Health initiative in the University of Missouri System (precisionhealth.umsystem.edu).

We seek dynamic individuals who will lead extramurally funded research programs, train doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows, provide academic service on campus and/or professionally, and contribute to one of more of the educational missions in undergraduate or graduate education. The desired focus of the research is on influenza epidemiology, with prior experience in infectious disease epidemiology, cohort study design, and biospecimen collection to enhance our understanding of influenza and emerging infectious diseases. The successful candidate will be expected to develop or possess a robust, collaborative, externally-funded research program.

The tenure home will be the Department of Public Health, where strengths include the following areas: HIV/AIDS, Vulnerable Populations and Health Disparities, Rural Health, and Health across the Life-course. The position includes teaching public health courses, research and service to fit School of Health Professions/Department of Public Health needs, with the option of a joint appointment in the MU School of Medicine (e.g. in Dept. of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease or Molecular Microbiology & Immunology). The School of Health Professions is one component of MU Health, an integrated health system that also includes the Sinclair School of Nursing, the School of Medicine, and the University Hospitals and Clinics.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have a PhD or DrPH in Epidemiology or closely related field; an MD with Epidemiology training will also be considered. An ideal candidate would have prior experience in infectious disease epidemiology, cohort study design, and biospecimen collection. Advanced quantitative data analytical skills are essential.

Candidates will be evaluated on their background in epidemiology and public health, ability to work across disciplines, ability to teach in an academic setting and scholarly productivity. Applicants for an Assistant Professor position must demonstrate the potential to establish and maintain an externally funded research program. Applicants for an Associate or Full Professor position must have an established extramurally funded research program, and a strong record of peer-reviewed publications and national/international recognition appropriate for rank. The candidate is expected to actively participate in developing collaborative research projects with faculty within CIEID and across the MU campus.
