What do you like to do in your free time?
Cooking, golfing and playing cards are among my favorite things to do in my free time, as well as spending time with my family. I really love firing up my grills for some BBQ and smoking meat on my Pit Boss smoker, too.
What is the best thing about the College of Health Sciences?
One of the most rewarding aspects of being part of the College of Health Sciences is the opportunity to engage with our students on a meaningful level. What stands out to me is the relationships I’ve been able to cultivate with some of our students. CHS has provided me with a platform to support our students as they navigate their academic journey and prepare for their career or graduate school.
Every day, I am motivated to come to work by the chance to help our students develop decision-making skills and instill the confidence they need — not only during their time in college but also as they move forward in their lives. I have found out that being a part of this process, even in a small way, is incredibly rewarding. Throughout my time here, it has been like putting together a puzzle where I get to connect with students and assist them in reaching their goals.
If the CHS advising office hosted a show-and-tell tomorrow, what would you bring?
Man, I would definitely select my autographed Dallas Cowboys Emmitt Smith football. Emmitt Smith has been my idol since childhood, and my respect for him has only grown over the years, going beyond his playing career. After his playing days, he has committed himself to empowering underserved youth through his foundation, providing them with unique experiences and educational opportunities. This is close to my heart, as it reflects the work I’ve been involved in both historically and within my current role. This football represents my appreciation for the NFL Hall of Famer and displays my commitment to fostering positive change in our community, mirroring the values we support in the College of Health Sciences.
What is the best piece of advice you received when you were a student?
The best piece of advice I received from my time as a student was this: “Continue to always learn something new, and be your authentic self.”
Are you a Mizzou Alum?
Yes! I completed my Educational Specialist (Ed.S) back in 2021 and a couple of graduate certificates before that.
