What does graduating from the Mizzou College of Health Sciences mean to you?

Graduating from the Mizzou College of Health Sciences means that I have met a goal I set. It means that I have set myself up for success. This college prides itself on educating its students and setting them up for success. I am proud to be a Mizzou College of Health Sciences graduate!

What was one of your favorite classes within your degree track?

One of my favorite classes within my degree has been Language Disorders of Adults. Coming into Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, my heart was set on the pediatric population. However, after this course, a new place in my heart belongs to the adult population. Having a grandfather with Parkinson’s disease, this class was the first course I applied something I learned in class to someone I love and care for deeply. This was such a neat experience!

What activities have you been involved in along the way?

I have had the opportunity to be involved in various activities during my undergraduate career. A few of my favorites include being a part of the Accent Expansion Program, Robert G. Combs Language Preschool, and the National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association. I had the opportunity to be a student clinician for the Accent Expansion Program and Robert G. Combs Language Preschool. As a student clinician for the Accent Expansion Program, I had the opportunity to assist adults in learning English. As a student clinician for the Robert G. Combs Language Preschool, I provided communication-rich interactions for children with speech and/or language needs.

I joined the National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association as a junior. Come senior year, I was elected to serve as the 2023-2024 National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association President. Serving as president has been such a rewarding experience. Through this experience, I have developed strong leadership skills and made many lifelong friendships.

Who helped you during your college journey?

I am surrounded by the best! From a young age, my family instilled the importance of hard work and has supported me in every aspect of life. From the beginning of the Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences undergraduate program, I have learned alongside the best of friends and been taught by such amazing faculty. During my studies, I had the opportunity to work with many individuals who confirmed my career choice and inspired me to keep going. I have so much gratitude for all of these individuals!

What memories stand out from your time at Mizzou?

My time at Mizzou has been full of many memories. One of my favorites is exploring Columbia with friends. Whether it be a new restaurant or a walking trail, we always have a fun time!

What are your plans after graduation?

I will be attending the University of Missouri to pursue my Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology! I’m so excited to be staying a Tiger!

What advice do you have for current and future students?

You can do anything you set your mind to! Hard work and passion will take you far, but don’t forget to enjoy the journey along the way.
