Why did you choose Health Science at Mizzou?
I chose the Health Science Pre-Professional emphasis because it covered all the required curriculum for medical schools, had a supportive and engaging staff, and gave me a great overview of our current healthcare system in the U.S. It’s a really well-rounded program that teaches you more than just the science of the profession!
Tell us more about how you’ve gotten hands-on experience!
My favorite experience so far has been working as a clinical scribe at the Missouri Orthopedic Institute. I’ve worked there for one and a half years. In that time, I’ve scribed for various physicians, including family and sports medicine physicians, as well as trauma, sports, and reconstructive orthopedic surgeons. This has given me a firsthand look at how a clinic works, the intersectionality of the patient experience, and the different approaches doctors take when handling complex cases.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
My advice for incoming CHS students would be to ask questions and interact with faculty and staff. Professors may seem intimidating, but they are just regular people and love to hear from their students. This also helps to foster a relationship for later support on things like graduate school or scholarship applications.
