Why did you choose Health Science at Mizzou?
As soon as I toured Mizzou, it immediately felt like home. I could tell the students were so passionate about their school and truly loved it. The campus is absolutely beautiful and the perfect college town. The College of Health Sciences drew me in because of the holistic approach to healthcare. I was always interested in a career in healthcare and knew I wanted to take classes focused on the healthcare system. I loved the idea of a Health Science major, and that I could take classes related to my interests and taught by healthcare professionals.
What are you involved in on campus?
I’m involved in Greek Life, the Pre-Physician Assistant Club, Columbia Mobile Aid Collective, and I work as a care tech at MU Health Care. Greek Life has helped me make connections and find support outside of class. The Pre-PA Club has taught me a lot about the PA profession and given me great shadowing opportunities. Volunteering and working at the hospital have helped me build patient care experience and grow my clinical skills.
Tell us more about how you’ve gotten hands-on experience!
I have loved having a part-time job at MU Health Care as a CNA. This allows me to work closely with patients, often in a vulnerable position, to care for them and foster a healing environment. I am able to learn about clinical information as well, preparing me for my future in healthcare. I am also doing a service-learning internship in which I will help provide medical care and necessities to the unhoused population in Columbia.
