Why did you choose the College of Health Sciences at Mizzou?
I chose Mizzou after touring with my best friend and completely falling in love with the campus. I always knew I wanted to go into healthcare—specifically imaging—but I also wanted the full 4-year college experience. Mizzou had strong programs in the areas I was interested in, especially Nuclear Medicine, which isn’t offered in many places. I was also deciding between Nuclear Med and Ultrasound, and Mizzou gave me the flexibility to explore both paths while I worked toward applying to the clinical phase of the programs. Having those options made choosing Mizzou an easy decision.
Tell us more about how you’ve gotten hands-on experience!
My favorite hands-on experience so far was shadowing a nuclear medicine technologist and getting to see all the different parts of the field up close. It was really cool to watch how they work with patients and use imaging in such an important way. Shadowing confirmed how much I love imaging and made me even more excited about where I’m headed. My goal is to get a job in nuclear medicine and eventually go into research focused on Alzheimer’s or oncology, and this experience made me feel like I’m on the right path.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
I would tell students to get involved and not be scared to try new things. I was nervous at first, too, but the more I joined, the more people I met, and the more opportunities came my way. Finding clubs and activities that fit your interests really helps you build a support system on campus. And most importantly, take care of yourself and remember that your grades don’t define you!
