Why did you choose Health Science at Mizzou?

From the very first time I visited, the campus felt like home to me. I honestly couldn’t stop thinking about the school after I left. I didn’t know anyone at Mizzou, so I was a little hesitant about going somewhere completely new, but I could really see myself here. Stepping out of my comfort zone and choosing a place where I could meet so many new friends ended up being the best decision for me!  I chose the College of Health Sciences because it provides a strong foundation in patient care and healthcare systems, and it also gives me all the required courses I need to apply for physical therapy school. It’s helped me grow my understanding of healthcare while reinforcing my interest in becoming a physical therapist.

Tell us more about how you’ve gotten hands-on experience!

My favorite hands-on experience has been serving as a fake patient for current students in the Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, which gave me insight into PT school and helped prepare me for the mindset and responsibilities of a (hopefully!) future DPT student.

What advice do you have for incoming students?

Try everything! You can always back out of clubs or organizations if they’re not the right fit, but you never know what great opportunities will come from putting yourself out there. Getting involved has shaped my whole experience — from Tour Team and MU FIGS Peer Learning Advising to the Pre-PT Club, Sigma Eta Rho, and working as a physical therapy tech at Peak Sport and Spine. Each experience has helped me meet new people, learn more about my interests, and make Mizzou feel a lot more connected.
