What has been your favorite part of being a student in the College of Health Sciences?
My favorite part of being a CHS student so far is getting to take classes that focus on what I’m actually interested in—not just my major requirements. I’ve been able to build a lot of different classes into my schedule that let me explore my interests and even step outside my comfort zone. My advisor has been great about helping me stay on track while still taking courses that excite me. I love that the college really encourages students to become well-rounded.
What makes Mizzou feel like home?
Getting involved and building relationships with people in my classes is what has really made Mizzou feel like home. I’ve been able to find a community within my courses, and it makes such a difference. Before big exams or projects, we meet up for study sessions, which helps us bounce ideas off each other and catch things we might’ve missed on our own. Walking into class and actually knowing the people around me has made campus feel so much more welcoming and helped me feel supported every step of the way.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
Get involved! When I first got to campus, I was nervous to put myself out there, but once I did, Mizzou felt so much more comfortable. I joined the National Student Speech, Language and Hearing Association (NSSLHA) and Sigma Eta Rho, the Health Sciences Professional Fraternity, and getting involved in those groups helped me meet some of my closest friends. Being part of clubs, organizations, and other activities made a big campus with so many new faces feel a lot smaller. Getting involved pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me build a strong sense of community here at Mizzou.
