Why did you choose Health Science at Mizzou?

I chose Mizzou and the College of Health Sciences because it offered the perfect blend of academic preparation and hands-on opportunities. I knew I wanted a strong foundation in health care while completing my prerequisites for graduate school, and CHS provided exactly that. Beyond academics, Mizzou has over 600 clubs and organizations for students to get involved in. I’ve loved exploring new organizations, meeting people from all over campus, and finding communities that feel meaningful to me. Plus, the campus is beautiful. The College of Health Sciences also provides so many resources and support systems that truly set students up for success.

What are you involved in on campus?

I am involved in Greek Life, and one of my favorite experiences has been participating in Homecoming. I also serve on the executive board of the Pre-Physician Assistant club, where I love connecting with other future PA students and helping members find shadowing opportunities. Additionally, I am involved in Mizzou Global Medical Training. My favorite experience with GMT was traveling to Nicaragua this past summer to help host a free clinic for individuals with limited access to healthcare. Being able to mix my passion for healthcare and Spanish was incredibly meaningful.

Tell us more about how you’ve gotten hands-on experience!

My favorite experience has been working in a genetics research lab studying Baker-Gordon syndrome. I collaborated with physicians, professors, medical students, and researchers to test different medications on fruit flies and evaluate which treatments might be promising for future clinical trials. It was fascinating to contribute to research that has real potential to impact patient care, and it deepened my interest in the scientific side of medicine.
