Why did you choose Health Science at Mizzou?

I have had many family members attend Mizzou, which led me to touring and learning about the programs here.  I hadn’t looked at a school with a health science degree like the one here. I really liked the well-rounded view of the healthcare system I would get from the degree requirements and electives. After touring the campus and hearing about all it had to offer, I knew Mizzou was where I wanted to go.

What are you involved in on campus?

One of the organizations I am involved in is the Pre-Physician Assistant club. It has allowed me to meet other students on the same path to get advice from. Additionally, we get to speak with current PAs to hear about their specialty, how they got there, and network with them. We also get opportunities to earn shadowing and volunteer hours to help us be prepared for our professional program.

Tell us more about how you’ve gotten hands-on experience!

My favorite hands-on clinical experience so far has been my job at University Hospital. I am in the float pool, so I am on a different unit each shift, allowing me to gain experience in multiple areas and see a wide variety of patients with differing health needs. This job not only enables me to get the patient care hours that are an admission requirement for most PA schools, but it has also allowed me to see many different specialties that a PA can work in.
