Why did you choose Health Science at Mizzou?

I chose Mizzou because when I visited, it felt like a place where I could really grow both academically and personally. I saw how many student resources were available on campus and within the College of Health Sciences, and that level of support solidified my choice in attending this school. The College of Health Sciences stood out to me because of their emphasis on experiential learning and community involvement, so it felt like a perfect fit with what I wanted to do later on in my career.

Tell us more about how you’ve gotten hands-on experience!

My favorite hands-on experience so far has been my time spent shadowing an occupational therapist at a retirement community here in Columbia. I loved getting to witness the day-to-day work of someone in the career I hope to pursue, and I also learned a lot of information I didn’t know before that I could take with me as I continue my academic and professional journey. Overall, it was great to see an expert in action, and I couldn’t recommend shadowing more to any prospective or current students!

How has your time at Mizzou shaped who you are today?

My time at Mizzou has shaped who I am today because I am more confident than ever in my career choice due to the classes and extra opportunities that have exposed me to even more about the field of occupational therapy. I have gotten to hear directly from professionals in the field and also learn from my peers at Mizzou with similar interests. Both of these things have had a large influence on helping me discover my passions. I also feel as though the community here has made it easy to form connections and friendships that I can continue to grow in and learn from!
