Why did you choose Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences at Mizzou?

I chose Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences at Mizzou because I’ve always wanted a career where I can help others and work closely with people every day. As someone who values connection and making a meaningful difference, speech-language pathology felt like the perfect fit. I love how the field blends healthcare with patient-centered care, and getting to support people as they gain confidence, independence, and a voice of their own is what truly drew me in.

I picked Mizzou because it has a great program and an incredibly supportive community. The professors genuinely care about their students, and there are tons of opportunities to get involved, grow as a leader, and get hands-on experience that really prepares you for what comes next.

What are you involved in on campus?

I am involved in several student organizations on campus, including the health sciences fraternity Sigma Eta Rho, the College of Health Sciences Student Council, the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association, Greek Life, and more. My favorite part of being involved is the opportunity to connect with people both within my major and with students across campus. Through these organizations, I have been able to grow as a leader, build meaningful relationships, and collaborate with students from many different backgrounds.

What makes Mizzou feel like home?

What has made Mizzou feel like home for me—especially within the College of Health Sciences—is the strong sense of community. As an out-of-state student, I was nervous about finding my place at such a big school, but I was welcomed right away by professors who genuinely care about their students and classmates who always support one another. Getting involved in CHS organizations and campus activities helped me build meaningful relationships and find my people. Those connections are what have made Mizzou truly feel like a second home.
