Why did you choose Health Science at Mizzou?

I chose Health Science because I knew I wanted to pursue medical school, but I didn’t feel drawn to some of the more traditional science-heavy paths. With Health Science, I still take all the prerequisites I need for the MCAT and medical school applications, but I also get to learn about the broader healthcare environment and the policies that shape it. It gave me the academic foundation I needed and let me explore the parts of healthcare that really interest me.

What are you involved in on campus?

I’m involved in Marching Mizzou, Kappa Kappa Psi Honorary Fraternity, and the Griffiths Leadership Society. Out of everything I’m part of, the organization I’ve made the most memories with is definitely Marching Mizzou. I love putting on the uniform and getting to cheer on our Tigers. I’ve also been able to travel across the country — and even abroad to Ireland — to represent the university. It’s been such an amazing experience and one of my favorite parts of being at Mizzou.

Tell us more about how you’ve gotten hands-on experience!

I completed an internship through Mizzou Study Abroad and the College of Health Sciences. I spent a month at a hospital in Cyprus with a team of cardiothoracic surgeons. I’ll never forget the feeling of amazement when I was able to feel a patient’s heartbeat during surgery!
