Alese Thompson recognized for contributions to clinical laboratory science

Alese Thompson, clinical site coordinator and assistant clinical professor of Clinical Laboratory Science, has been honored for her contributions to clinical laboratory science education and the field itself. 

Thompson was recently selected by the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) as one of eight recipients nationwide of the 2024 ASCLS Voices Under 40 Spotlight. The recognition honors ASCLS members at a young age in their professional careers who have shown exceptional commitment to the society, the laboratory profession, and their communities at large.  She was also a recipient of the 2024 Omicron Sigma ASCLS Award and the 2024 President’s Award for ASCLS-MO.  

Additionally, Thompson took over as chairperson of the newly incorporated Association of Medical Laboratory Education Programs (AMLEP). The mission of AMLEP is to promote collaboration and communication among medical laboratory educational programs while enhancing the quality of education. AMLEP addresses academic, clinical and regulatory issues impacting the field. It also advocates for the interests of programs and students in areas such as administration, accreditation, education, practice and public policy. 

Lastly, Thompson was inducted into the Alpha Mu Tau Fraternity.  Alpha Mu Tau recognizes individuals who have made outstanding professional contributions to the field of clinical laboratory science. This national fraternity works to enhance the profession and provides scholarships to graduate and undergraduate students studying clinical laboratory science.
