Construction work at Clark Hall is officially underway as part of a $5 million renovation project that will create three classrooms and a reworked entrance to the south side of the building.

The renovations to Clark Hall will also add student meeting spaces and open study spaces. The project has an anticipated completion date of May 2024.

While this project is incredibly exciting for the College of Health Sciences, construction can create some issues in terms of noise and building access. CHS leadership appreciates everyone’s patience and flexibility, and we will use this post to provide ongoing updates throughout construction.

Updates for April 16, 2024

As we near the end of the construction process, we wanted to give everyone a sneak peek at the revitalized Clark Hall. The elevators on the first floor of Clark are once again accessible, and new furniture will start to be installed in the lobby and other areas later this month.

Updates for March 4, 2024

Work continues to hum along on the renovation of the first floor of Clark Hall. The space is starting to take shape as crews lay tile, mud and paint walls, install the ceiling grid, pull wire and install restroom accessories. Workers also wrapped our tiled courtyard columns with metal and continued work on the parking lot and dock area to the south of the building.

Updates for Jan. 17, 2024

There was a lot of progress made on Clark Hall over winter break, including a major overhaul of the Clark lobby and mezzanine areas. The first-floor lobby and mezzanine areas will remain closed through Monday, Jan. 22, to allow crews to complete the installation of a new fire alarm system. In the interim, basement access between Lewis and Clark halls will remain open.

The Robert G. Combs Language Preschool has moved back to Clark 137 for the spring semester! A portion of the lobby will remain open only to individuals who are authorized to enter the preschool as an access and secondary entrance for the preschool.

As planned, the south portion of the WG11 parking lot is reopened for ADA parking. These ADA spaces will be available for the remainder of the renovation work for both clients and visitors until the full parking lot is restored.

Updates for Dec. 14, 2023

The holiday season brings plenty of surprises — including significant updates regarding the ongoing renovation project in Clark Hall. The first-floor lobby and mezzanine of Clark closed for construction this past Saturday, Dec. 16. These areas will remain closed through Jan. 15, 2024, though basement access will remain between Lewis and Clark halls.

For anyone working in Clark Hall during the break, note that the main heat source in the building will be turned off from Dec. 26-29 as crews work to update the heat valves in areas being renovated. CHS staff members are working to provide heaters to any clinics operating in Clark Hall during that week.

Finally, the south portion of the WG11 parking lot is set to reopen for ADA parking beginning in January. The work on this portion of the lot has been completed, and these ADA spaces will be available for the remainder of the renovation work for both clients and visitors.

Updates for Nov. 21, 2023

The construction team closed the main lobby of Clark Hall during Thanksgiving week for renovation work, though it’s set to reopen on Monday, Nov. 27. Lobby seating will be available as before, but the ceiling has been removed in addition to the water and ice machines. While there will be a water station by the new bathrooms on the west side of the main lobby once construction is complete, we apologize for this temporary inconvenience.

Starting Monday, Nov. 27, the south side of the WG11 parking lot will officially close to all vehicles as crews begin resurfacing work. There will be temporary ADA spaces created in front of Lewis Hall on 5th Street while the lot is closed, and ADA spots near the basement entrance to Clark Hall will remain available.

Once the south portion of the lot is resurfaced, the ADA spaces closest to Lewis Hall will reopen for clients and visitors.

Updates for Oct. 11, 2023

Demolition work is winding down in Clark Hall, with large portions of the space framed out according to the new layout. The first portion of work on the parking lot is set to begin in early November, which will lead to a temporary reduction in the patient parking closest to Lewis Hall. That work is expected to conclude by Thanksgiving.

Updates for Sept. 27, 2023

Starting at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, the west entrance to Clark Hall will be closed. Ongoing renovation work in the building necessitates the closure of this entrance for a minimum of three days — though it could take up to a week to complete.

Patients who need to access any of the clinics normally housed in Clark Hall should receive instructions regarding alternative accommodations for this period. The entrance should be accessible again by the end of Friday, Oct. 6.

Updates for Sept. 18, 2023

As part of the ongoing work in Clark Hall, water will be shut off in the building from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 20. The outage is necessary to allow a contractor to work on the water service line for the renovation project.

Students, faculty and staff in Clark Hall during the Wednesday outage should not use any of the sinks or toilets in the building. Anyone who needs to use the restroom during that time can access facilities in Lewis Hall via the basement of Clark.

Updates for Sept. 11, 2023

Demolition is moving along inside Clark Hall, with Reinhardt Construction LLC clearing out the spaces that previously housed the Robert G. Combs Language Preschool and Mizzou Online. Temporary walls are in place along the east side of the Clark lobby and on the south side of the Clark elevators.

Starting the week of Sept. 18, crews will be tearing up carpet and tile from the floors in the space using loud machinery. Students, faculty and staff in Clark Hall between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. can expect a significant amount of noise throughout the week.

Demolition work inside Clark is expected to wrap up by mid-October, at which point any inside noise will be significantly reduced. Work on the exterior of Clark should begin at that stage, with significant noise as crews remove bricks from the outside of the building. A portion of the parking lot outside Lewis and Clark halls will also be fenced off to create space for the exterior demolition.

Crews installed temporary walls in the Clark Hall lobby on Wednesday, Aug. 23.

Updates for Aug. 23, 2023

Reinhardt Construction LLC has officially installed temporary walls in the lobby of Clark Hall and closed off elevator access on the first floor. The courtyard northwest atrium doors are also now closed off, though the northeast courtyard doors remain open.

Updates for Aug. 21, 2023

Work in the Clark lobby began on Monday, Aug. 21. Some of the Clark Hall entrances, a section of the existing Clark lobby, and a portion of the WG11 parking lot on the south side of the buildings will be affected starting later this week.

Entrances
  • The courtyard northwest atrium doors to Clark will be tarped off and closed.
  • The Clark south dock entrance will be closed off and inaccessible.
  • The courtyard northeast atrium doors will remain open during normal building hours.
  • The Clark basement entrance for patients and clients will remain open for the duration of the construction work. This will be the ADA route to Clark Hall with elevator access.
Clark lobby and elevators
  • Part of the Clark lobby around the former Mizzou Online space will be tarped off and closed.
  • The Clark first-floor elevator area will be closed off and inaccessible. All other floors will remain accessible by elevator.
  • The remainder of the lobby, including stairs to the second-floor mezzanine, will be available until that space is closed for HVAC and sprinkler work (date TBD).
WG11 parking lot
  • The south side of the lot will be closed for construction vehicles and equipment. This could affect the accessible spots and clinic parking that borders Fifth Street.
