Department of Health Sciences recognizes outstanding work

The Department of Health Sciences is pleased to announce the 2026 award recipients. Let’s meet the winners and learn what these awards are about.

Academic Achievement Award

Jenna Mullholland

Jenna will be moving to Kansas City to prepare for physician assistant school at the University of Missouri–Kansas City, which she will begin in January. Before resuming her studies, she is looking forward to traveling and enjoying time after graduation.

The recipient of this award demonstrates academic excellence in all aspects of the Health Sciences curriculum, including grades, classroom participation, research involvement and/or lab work. The recipient takes full advantage of educational experiences in class, on campus and beyond.

Spirit of Achievement Award

Christina Bertenshaw

Christina serves as a leader within the Department of Health Sciences and beyond through her unwavering positivity, support for peers and dedication to serving others. She plans to continue her work as an EMT with the hopes of beginning paramedic school.

This student is an outstanding representative of the department, college and university within the local and distant community.

Truman Award

Aaliyah Jackson

Following graduation, Aaliyah will be returning to Dallas to complete her master’s program while continuing her clinical work as she prepares to apply to medical school

The Truman Award recognizes a student who has demonstrated the strength of character and determination that is exemplary of a Missouri Tiger. The recipient of this award has successfully overcome obstacles while pursuing their education.

Intern of the Year Award

Ella Merrill

Ella plans to attend physical therapy school to build a career in sports physical therapy. She hopes to help athletes recover from injuries, improve performance and safely return to competition. 

The recipient of this award demonstrates a strong commitment to professional development as a student intern enrolled in Health Sciences 4975. The recipient is open to feedback, promotes a positive work environment and seeks opportunities for growth while advancing the organization’s mission.

Ella Merrill

Distance Learning

Annastochia Hartin

Annastochia is continuing her experience and growth with MU Health Care while considering a Master of Public Health degree at the University of Missouri in the future.

The recipient of this award demonstrates a strong commitment to achieving success while pursuing educational goals outside the traditional campus setting. In addition to academic dedication, the recipient is an outstanding representative of the program within their local community, embodying the values of leadership, initiative and community engagement.

TA of the Year

Gianna Dietrich

Gianna recently completed her first year in the MHA program and continues to serve as a teaching assistant, supporting students and contributing to the program’s success.

This award recognizes an outstanding Teaching Assistant in the Department of Health Sciences who has made a significant impact on student learning and course delivery. The recipient demonstrates excellence in instructional support, professionalism and mentorship, going above and beyond to support students and faculty within the department.  

Supervisor of the Year

Marcy Maddox

Marcy Maddox is the Executive Director Supply Chain at MU Health Care.

This award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to student learning and development within the health care industry. Internship supervisors are integral to students’ professional development, and this award is intended to recognize their value and express the gratitude of the Department of Health Sciences students and faculty.

Faculty Member of the Year Award

David Moxley

The recipient of this award has made a significant impact on students and the university through exceptional service, mentorship and professional dedication. This faculty member goes above and beyond to support student success, contribute to the department’s mission and strengthen our academic community. The award honors a faculty member who exemplifies excellence, collaboration and a strong commitment to the field of Health Sciences.
