Get to know the 2023 College of Health Sciences summer peer advisors
June 29, 2023
The summer months at the University of Missouri bring many familiar sights and sounds: the crashes of construction equipment, brilliant blooms all over campus and incoming Tigers attending Summer Welcome events.
Summer Welcome gives new Mizzou students a chance to get to know the campus and their future classmates, including making connections within the College of Health Sciences. CHS Summer Welcome peer advisors spend the summer months helping incoming freshmen and transfer students get acclimated and ready for their first semester at the university.
Peer advisors help incoming students register for classes, answer questions about student schedules and the university, and assist CHS Academic Advisors with a variety of tasks. Here’s a quick introduction to our six College of Health Sciences summer peer advisors for 2023:
Kiara Crawford
Hometown: St. Louis, Missouri
Year in school: I graduated with a Bachelor of Health Sciences this past May. This fall, I am beginning a graduate certificate in higher education administration.
Major/program: I studied Health Sciences with an emphasis in Rehabilitation Science.
A fun fact about me: I have a twin brother!
My favorite aspect of summer at Mizzou: This past summer was my second doing what my friends and I call “CoMo Summer.” My favorite part about it is trying new restaurants around town — there’s also a shorter wait in the summer.
Kinsey Evans
Hometown: Pilot Point, Texas
Year in school: Senior
Major/program: I am majoring in Health Science with an emphasis in Rehabilitation Science on the pre-Physical Therapy track.
What I love about CHS: I love how helpful and caring the professors are at CHS. The relationships I have made with the staff and professors in CHS are invaluable to me.
A fun fact about me: I grew up in a small town where my graduating class only had 48 students. Coming to Mizzou was a HUGE change for me!
My favorite aspect of summer at Mizzou: How beautiful campus is in the summer! All of the flowers, trees and gardens are in bloom, and it is gorgeous.
Savannah Gonzales
Hometown: Muskego, Wisconsin
Year in school: I am about to enter my first year in graduate school!
Major/program: I just graduated in May with my BHS in Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences.
What I love about CHS: The people! My Mizzou experience would not have been as amazing as it was without the outstanding community that CHS has provided me.
A fun fact about me: This is my third summer being a CHS peer advisor!
My favorite aspect of summer at Mizzou: I love being able to walk around campus in the beautiful weather and see all the Summer Welcome festivities take place!
Zoe Kladis
Hometown: Lockport, Illinois
Year in school: Junior
Major/program: I’m in the Department of Speech, Language, Hearing Sciences.
What I love about CHS: I love the diversity within each program and the fact that each program has the common goal of helping and benefiting others and the well-being of the community. Finding a group of people with the common goal of helping others is incredible.
A fun fact about me: I have moved five times within the past two years! Lived through a lot of boxes, that’s for sure!
My favorite aspect of summer at Mizzou: Exploring different parts of Columbia that I never have before, such as going hiking or to the farmers market. Learning about the Columbia community is so special to me, and I am happy to have the summer opportunity to do so!
Lauren Stroupe
Hometown: Columbia, Missouri
Year in school: Sophomore
Major/program: I’m currently pre-professional, but I plan to change to Nuclear Medicine.
What I love about CHS: The professors are very hands-on and helpful. Everyone is great!
A fun fact about me: I have not missed a home Mizzou football game since I was born.
My favorite aspect of summer at Mizzou: Taking a break from school and all the craziness that goes on during the semester.
Grace Verslues
Hometown: Jefferson City, Missouri
Year in school: Sophomore
Major/program: Health Sciences with an emphasis on Health and Wellness (Pre-Occupational Therapy)
What I love about CHS: One thing I love about the College of Health Sciences is the people. Ever since I came to Mizzou, everyone in the College of Health Sciences had made me feel so welcome and cared for.
A fun fact about me: I live on a farm!
My favorite aspect of summer at Mizzou: Feeling the excitement coming from the incoming freshman and getting to be a part of one of their first experiences here at Mizzou!
