The Health Sciences Scholars program kicked off the academic year by welcoming 42 promising new student participants. Designed for promising freshmen transitioning into their sophomore year, the program pairs students with peer and faculty mentors for a year focused on academic excellence and readiness for competitive CHS pathways.

The Sept. 3 orientation was a high-energy event that started with a playful “Rock, Paper, Scissors” icebreaker led by program director Donal Buckner. College of Health Sciences Senior Associate Dean Stephanie Reid-Arndt then welcomed the scholars, encouraging them to be curious, collaborative and caring as they embark on their journey.

Students met their mentors to set goals, visited clinical spaces to see learning in action and networked with one another to build a strong community. The program helps students become application-ready for their chosen CHS programs through health care seminars, professional development and intentional tutoring.
