What does graduating from the Mizzou College of Health Sciences mean to you?
Graduating from the Mizzou College of Health Sciences is something I am very proud of. This experience is not only a personal milestone, but it also allows me to step into a role of responsibility and service in the health care field. Receiving this degree symbolizes my years of hard work and dedication to enter the health care field and contribute to improving the health and well-being of the communities I will serve.
What was one of your favorite classes within your degree track?
My favorite class I have taken was Clinical Ethics with Dr. Flynn-Peters. This class did require a lot of work, but I learned a lot along the way and gained valuable experiences with group work and writing skills. This class taught me a lot about ethics and how it applies to the health care field, which is something I have always been interested in.
What activities have you been involved in along the way?
I have been involved in Sigma Eta Rho, a professional fraternity for Health Sciences students, for almost my entire time at Mizzou. This organization has given me many opportunities to volunteer in the community, like at The Food Bank For Central & Northeast Missouri and the Robert G. Combs Language Preschool.
Who helped you during your college journey?
My parents and the rest of my family were the biggest contributors to my education, which I am very thankful for. My friends have also been a big part of my support system and helped me grow into the person I am today. I also am grateful for the wonderful CHS professors and faculty for advancing my learning and giving me opportunities to showcase my skills.
What memories stand out from your time at Mizzou?
Some of my favorite memories from my time at Mizzou are from my freshman year, as soon as I moved to Columbia. Some of my favorite memories come from the moments of connection with friends and classmates outside of class. Whether it was attending Mizzou football games, studying together late into the night or participating in student organizations, I made lifelong friendships that I know will continue to be a source of support throughout my career.
I also really enjoyed participating in my internship through CHS. This gave me valuable hands-on experience in the field and taught me skills that I will take with me into my career.
What are your plans after graduation?
I plan on taking a gap year and applying to MHA programs in fall 2025. In the meantime, I plan to get an entry-level job in health administration to further my experience.
What advice do you have for current and future students?
Enjoy every moment at Mizzou — it really does fly by. Take the time to build connections with your professors and faculty, as these relationships will be valuable in the future. They are not only great educators but also wonderful people who genuinely care about your success.
Make the most of every opportunity, because your time as an undergraduate is unique and will never come again. College is a time for personal growth, and every experience you have will shape who you become. Above all, embrace the journey and enjoy your time at Mizzou. These years are truly some of the best of your life.
Anything else you’d like to share?
This has truly been one of the most valuable experiences of my life thus far. I am so thankful for the opportunity to attend Mizzou, and I am beyond grateful for the experiences and quality education I have received.
