What does graduating from the Mizzou College of Health Sciences mean to you?
Graduating from the Mizzou College of Health Sciences is meaningful as a first-generation student. I have made a lot of connections within the College of Health Sciences who have helped me accomplish this degree. It is an honor to work with a community that looks to help each other and help their students reach success.
What was one of your favorite classes within your degree track?
One of my favorite classes within my degree track is Social Work 4750, which was led by Dr. Christine Woods. This class focused on teaching and developing skills within my degree.
What activities have you been involved in along the way?
Activities I have been involved in as a Mizzou student are:
- Mixed at Mizzou secretary, May 2025–December 2025
- MSA at-large senator, October 2022–May 2024
- ALAS member, September 2022–December 2023
- Mixed at Mizzou Community Relations, August 2024–May 2025
Who helped you during your college journey?
Someone who has truly helped me during my college journey is my professor and advisor, Dr. Ashley Givens. They have guided me through my journey in social work and helped me when I was struggling with school. They were also always available when I needed someone to talk to, even if it didn’t involve their current class. I am very appreciative of Dr. Givens.
Others who helped me during my college career are my family and friends from home. My parents have been my rock and know how to support me when I need it. They know how to lift my spirits all the time. The same goes for my friends. When I am struggling, stressed or anxious, I know they are a call away. They distract me from the problem and then help me solve it.
What memories stand out from your time at Mizzou?
The memories that stand out from my time at Mizzou are all of my friends I have made along the way from my classes over the years and the current student organization I am in. Both of these have helped bring a sense of belonging and have created fun memories with my friends.
What are your plans after graduation?
My plans after graduation are to get my Master of Social Work starting in the summer of 2026. I plan on getting my social work license. During my six-month break between January and June, I plan to enter the workforce.
What advice do you have for current and future students?
The advice I have for current and future students is to truly find people who will be there for you through your accomplishments and failures. A social support system is very important to have. I also advise joining different student organizations that correlate to your academic career and hobbies. Lastly, I advise connecting with staff and faculty members to network and also help if you have any struggles during school.
