What does graduating from the Mizzou College of Health Sciences mean to you?
My degree from the Mizzou College of Health Sciences means so much! It symbolizes my life’s goals, hard work, and my dedication to helping others. My time at Mizzou taught me so much not only about speech language pathology, but about myself as an adult.
What was one of your favorite classes within your degree track?
My favorite class was my clinical apprenticeship in Mizzou’s Robert G. Combs Language Preschool. That class gave me the opportunity to work with my first two clients as a speech pathologist undergraduate student. I learned so much by having the chance to put my years of education into practice.
What activities have you been involved in along the way?
During my time at Mizzou, when I wasn’t in class or doing homework, I spent a lot of my time working. I worked for the University of Missouri Adventure Club for four years, where I was an afterschool teacher. I made great relationships with many children in the Columbia Public Schools, and they all taught me so much about myself and skills for my life as a future speech therapist.
Who helped you during your college journey?
My parents helped me so much. There were many times I felt like quitting my education. They helped to motivate and inspire me to work hard to get my degree. I couldn’t have done it without their unwavering support for me.
What memories stand out from your time at Mizzou?
My favorite memories from Mizzou were the many fun football games. It was amazing being able to see how a whole city and school can come together, and I am grateful I was a part of it.
What are your plans after graduation?
I am going to Saint Louis University to get my master’s in speech and language pathology. I will move there to start my program this June.
What advice do you have for current and future students?
My advice for current and future students is that everything happens for a reason! Whether you experience a difficult class or trying relationships, you can do it! You are stronger than you think you are!
