What does graduating from the Mizzou College of Health Sciences mean to you?
I’ve changed my major and emphasis so many times because I truly loved and am interested in everything that I could not choose — from Civil Engineering, to Education, and ultimately to Health Sciences. So, choosing to study Health Sciences is a big deal to me because it really captures my determination to serve and advocate for others. In a world where you can be anything, I choose to enter a field that primarily puts others before me. The College of Health Sciences has taught me many valuable lessons that I will be carrying to my graduate and professional career, and I am excited to be staying in a place where I have professors who value me and my growth.
What was one of your favorite classes within your degree track?
My favorite course I’ve taken has either been HS 3700 Healthcare in the U.S. or NEP 2222 Obesity.
What activities have you been involved in along the way?
I was a part of the Vietnamese Student Association, Tri Delta Women’s Fraternity, Asian American Association (AAA), Pre-Dental Club, Missouri Students Association (MSA), STEM Cubs Instructor and Volunteer, and a McNair Research Scholar.
Who helped you during your college journey?
People who helped me throughout my college journey would be my friends, family, my teams I have been a part of (MSA, VSA, and AAA), and my professors.
What memories stand out from your time at Mizzou?
Some memories that stand out are my freshman year bid day, moving out of my freshman year dorm by myself, and the accomplishments I made with MSA. I guess this is a testament that you never really remember the bad days!
What are your plans after graduation?
I plan on pursuing my Master of Health Administration at Mizzou. I will also be a TA for Dr. Molly Vetter-Dreier!
What advice do you have for current and future students?
Telling yourself affirmations is important during stressful and uncertain times. It doesn’t have to be “I am smart, and I can do this,” but some I like are “It could go either way, and either way I’m good,” or “Everything is a win when the goal is to experience.” I have a Pinterest board full of quotes for all of my rollercoaster of emotions to help me feel grounded after a long week or getting a bad grade. It’s important to find your personal way to uplift yourself, whatever it may be.
