Alexandria Lewis, assistant teaching professor in the School of Social Work, received the individual Shared Governance Award from the MU Faculty Council last week. The award recognizes a member of the MU community who has made a significant contribution to shared governance.
Below are excerpts from her nominator’s letter.
- “She brings her years of service in the U.S. Army to the Military and Veterans Campus Standing Committee, on which she has served since 2018. Veterans and military personnel can face special challenges in negotiating higher education, and they also bring commitment, talent, and skills that Alex recognizes. She has been a tireless advocate for these colleagues and students.”
- “Her work for shared governance isn’t about changing committee structures or developing new advisory bodies, but it is extraordinary in part because her participation shows why shared governance is so essential: not just because it’s the right thing, or because the CRRs mandate it, but the tremendous wisdom that faculty bring to important campus decisions.”
- “In each of her roles, Alex pushes to make Mizzou a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable environment, and she does so with passion, authenticity, and sensitivity. Our campus is richer and stronger for her many contributions.”
