Kristofer Hagglund, PhD, ABPP, has been the Dean of the College of Health Sciences since 2013. He joined the university in 1990 and is the second dean of the college since it became an autonomous academic unit in 2000.
Under Dean Hagglund’s leadership, the college has sustained remarkable growth with new academic programs designed to meet critical workforce needs. The college is the home of the most popular major at Mizzou, the Bachelor of Health Science in Health Science. Recently added programs include bachelor’s degrees in Criminal and Justice Studies, Fitness Programming and Management, and Occupational Therapy Assistant. The college also houses an interdisciplinary PhD in Health and Rehabilitation Science.
The College of Health Sciences has also set records for philanthropy and research in recent years. Individual donors and foundations gave $6.9 million to the College of Health Sciences in fiscal year 2025. The college has quintupled its research productivity in the last six years. Recent major renovations and clinic expansions help faculty members and students improve the health and well-being of Missourians. Administrative changes include the formation of the Department of Public Health, and the addition of the School of Social Work, the Center for Health Policy, and the Missouri Cancer Registry and Research Center.
Prior to his appointment as dean in 2013, Dr. Hagglund served for 12 years as associate dean in the college. In this role, he developed and launched signature degree programs, including the BHS in Health Science and Master of Public Health.
Dr. Hagglund is a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow alumnus. He is former director of the Mizzou MPH program and co-founder of the Center for Health Policy. He earned his PhD in medical rehabilitation psychology from the University of Alabama in medical/clinical psychology.
