The School of Social Work is pleased to announce that Alex Lewis, EdSp, MSW, LCSW, has been named associate director. Lewis joined the School of Social Work as a clinical instructor in 2015 and became an assistant teaching professor in 2018.
As associate director for instruction, Lewis will help lead the integration of artificial intelligence into social work education. She will work with faculty to develop AI-supported learning experiences and simulations for students and practicing clinicians. She will also partner with school leadership to assess and demonstrate instructional quality.
“As we integrate AI into educational environments, it is important that we learn how to use these tools effectively while helping students understand their ethical and appropriate use in clinical practice,” said Aaron Thompson, director of the School of Social Work. “Alex has invested significant time in this area and is well positioned to help faculty and students navigate these emerging opportunities.”
Lewis has long been recognized for her commitment to student success, community engagement and the use of technology to enhance learning. Her work focuses on creating active, engaging learning experiences for social work students and professionals.
Thompson also thanked Carol Snively for her years of service as associate director. He credited Snively with helping lead accreditation efforts, grow the school’s online MSW program and champion technology enhancements that continue to benefit students and faculty. “The school is stronger because of Carol’s leadership and dedication to our students,” Thompson said.
