Programs give science club members a glimpse into health professions
Respiratory Therapy demonstration On March 4, representatives with several School of Health Professions programs came together to host a hands-on session for the CALEB Science Club. Attendees were able to learn about and participate in five different career paths in the health professions field: diagnostic medical ultrasound, nuclear medicine, occupational therapy, radiography and respiratory therapy. CALEB Science Club participants learned what a diagnostic medical ultrasound is and how it can be used to image various parts of patients’ bodies, including the heart, abdominal organs, muscles and tendons. New technology helps keep older adults safe in their homes longer
A new study by MU researchers aims to use sensor technology to make it safer for adults over 65 in rural areas to remain at home longer. The Smart In-Home Sensor Technology is a system of unobtrusive devices installed in the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom or other room where a participant spends a lot of time. The depth sensor technology can detect a fall immediately and send a text message alert to a caregiver, as well as the research team.
