Wintemberg to lead undergraduate studies for public health

Jan. 22, 2025

The MU College of Health Sciences is pleased to announce that Jenna Wintemberg has been named director of undergraduate studies for the Department of Public Health.

In this role, Wintemberg will oversee the undergraduate curriculum for the Bachelor of Health Science in Public Health degree program, which equips students to address today’s most pressing public health challenges. Her appointment comes during a period of growth for the program, which provides students with a foundation in public health principles and prepares them for careers in government, nonprofit organizations, health care and more.

Wintemberg has served in a similar role for the Department of Health Sciences since 2023. She said she’s excited to expand upon that work while also connecting the two departments.

“By bridging the expertise and resources across two departments, I aim to strengthen and grow the program, ensuring it continues to offer students a robust and dynamic education,” she said. “I look forward to collaborating with colleagues and students to help shape the future of public health education.”

Wintemberg is an associate teaching professor with the Departments of Public Health and Health Sciences as well as an honors college-affiliated faculty member. She received her Ph.D., master of public health and bachelor’s degree from Mizzou and is a Certified Health Education Specialist.

Since joining Mizzou in 2017, Wintemberg has received numerous accolades. These include the MU Provost Outstanding Junior Faculty Teaching Award, the College of Health Sciences Excellence in Education – Early Career Award, and the Missouri Telehealth Network ECHO Champion Award.

Julie Kapp, chair of the Department of Public Health, said she’s excited to see Wintemberg continue to enhance undergraduate experiences in the department.

“Bridging these two departments will allow her to work efficiently across programs to provide the highest quality learning experience for CHS undergraduates, strengthen the unique identities of both programs and help guide undergraduates into the program that is the right choice for their career goals,” Kapp said.
