School of Health Professions receives more than $400,000 to enhance student success
The School of Health Professions received six grants totaling $402,445 from the University of Missouri President’s “Enhancing Student Success at Mizzou” program. This funding will be used mostly to update technology and equipment in our clinical teaching labs. A life of public service: Grace Nielson
April 14, 2022 Grace Nielson, a senior from Joplin, Missouri, knew she would dedicate her life to public service after her father passed away in the line of duty. At Mizzou, Nielson has gotten involved as a member of Tour Team, a peer educator for the RVSP Center, and undergraduate student representative for the Women’s Committee for the Chancellor. She is also a Truman Fellowship Finalist and Kinder Scholar. In the future, Nielson wants to go into political social work and create and lobby for domestic violence policies. March 29, 2022 Kathleen Preble, School of Social Work assistant professor, received the Jordan Hoyt Memorial Tribute to Women Award at the MU Tribute to Women banquet March 15. Burrell Behavioral Health to sponsor Social Work 100-year celebration
Burrell Behavioral Health is the Student Scholarship Sponsor for a 100-year celebration of social work at Mizzou this year. The sponsorship creates the Burrell Social Work Scholarship Endowed Fund, which will support social work students in perpetuity. Speech-language pathology graduate program receives reaccreditation
March 21, 2022 By Kelsey Carroll As of Feb. 19, 2022, the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) voted to continue accreditation for the graduate education program in speech-language pathology at University of Missouri for a period of eight years beginning Jan. 1, 2022, through Dec. 31, 2029. Students serve Missouri through alternative breaks
March 17, 2022 Last weekend, several Health Professions students traveled to Poplar Bluff, Missouri, to serve at Cedargate Healthcare, a skilled nursing facility, on a Mizzou Alternative Breaks trip. The students spent a lot of one-on-one time with residents, crocheting with them and painting their nails. They also helped clean, did laundry, and passed out meal trays. A virtual way to rehab from a stroke

Traditional rehabilitation therapy is very intensive, time-consuming and can be both expensive and inconvenient, especially for rural patients travelling long distances to in-person therapy appointments.
