Process

Award nominations are accepted year-round. Nominations received after the dates below will be considered for the following year’s awards cycle. Email Rose Hayden if you have questions.

Faculty and staff winners are selected by the awards committee and recognized at an event at the end of the spring semester. Alumni are recognized at an event in the fall. View past winners.

Alumni

Excellence in Mentoring

This award honors an alum who is an excellent professional role model and mentor who has demonstrated a genuine commitment to the advancement of the College of Health Sciences and its students.

Citation of Merit

This award is given to a member of the College of Health Sciences alumni in recognition of exemplary contributions made, whether they be humanitarian, professional, civic, or philanthropic.

Outstanding Young Alumni Award

The Outstanding Young Alumni Awards recognize alumni age 35 years or younger for their professional accomplishments and engagement with the College of Health Sciences and the University of Missouri.


Faculty

Lewis & Clark Discovery Award

This award is given to a faculty member who has made outstanding contributions to the health and well-being of individuals, families and/or communities through research and scholarly activities. Such contributions may include (but are not limited to) high impact discoveries, sustained achievement and/or mentorship activities.

Lewis & Clark Discovery — Early Career

This award is conferred upon a faculty member who, while still in the first 10 years since degree completion, has made significant contributions to the health and well-being of individuals, families and/or communities through research and scholarly activities.

Early Career Award

This award was established to help support faculty who are balancing the demands of teaching, research and service, which, as we know well, is a challenge both for the faculty member and their family. The award is selected each year by a special faculty committee, and includes a $1,000 stipend for a faculty member who has not yet attained the rank of full professor and whose successes in scholarship, teaching or service have significantly advanced the mission of College of Health Sciences.

Faculty Engagement Award

The Faculty Engagement Award will honor a faculty member who has demonstrated exceptional engagement and service to the community, broadly defined as including the College/University, their profession and/or the local/national/international community. These activities reflect the faculty member’s academic/professional expertise and support the College of Health Sciences’ mission; they are outstanding contributions that exceed typical expectations for faculty engagement.

Excellence in Clinical Service Award

The Excellence in Clinical Service Award will honor a faculty member who has demonstrated sustained excellence in College/University clinical service activities, including clinical teaching and/or direct patient care. These activities reflect the faculty member’s academic/professional expertise and support the College of Health Sciences’ mission; they are outstanding contributions that serve as a model of excellence for all.

Excellence in Education Award

The College of Health Sciences recognizes that excellence in teaching not only benefits the learners but also serves as a foundation of a critical mission – to prepare graduates for high impact careers. This award honors a faculty member at the level of mid-career or beyond who has demonstrated superlative commitment to the teaching mission, and may recognize efforts spanning a broad range of activities, including traditional instruction, advising, mentoring, training, and outreach activities.

Excellence in Education Award — Early Career

The College of Health Sciences recognizes that excellence in teaching not only benefits the learners but also serves as a foundation of a critical mission – to prepare graduates for high impact careers. This award honors a faculty member at the early career level (less than 7 years of teaching experience) who has demonstrated superlative commitment to the teaching mission, and may recognize efforts spanning a broad range of activities, including traditional instruction, advising, mentoring, training, and outreach activities.


Faculty/Staff

Inclusive Excellence Award

This award recognizes outstanding efforts by faculty and/or staff to enhance an environment of inclusion within the College of Health Sciences and/or campus-wide. This can include, but is not limited to, efforts to promote recognition and support of the value of diverse perspectives/experiences, efforts to enhance inclusivity (e.g., via projects, classroom instruction, etc.), and contributions to the celebration of diversity at the school and/or community level.

Excellence in Mentoring Award

The Excellence in Mentoring Award recognizes a member of the College of Health Sciences faculty or staff for exemplary mentoring skills and consistent efforts to engage students in ways that optimize student’s success.  Nominations may be submitted by colleagues but should include information detailing students’ perspectives about the nominee’s contributions (e.g., quotes from students, evidence of nomination/selection by students for other awards/recognition, etc.).


Staff

Dean’s Service Award

Recognizes a member of the College of Health Sciences staff who has demonstrated exemplary service to the school and has gone out of their way to help others achieve the highest levels of success.

Bridge Builder Award

This award recognizes the outstanding efforts of a member of the College of Health Sciences staff to reach out and collaborate across departments, the campus, and/or the community.

Core Values Staff Award

This award recognizes a benefit-eligible staff member in the College of Health Sciences who embodies the core values of our college, demonstrates work ethic and collegiality, engages in professional development and encourages others to do the same, and effectively communicates and collaborates with others. This award includes a $500 stipend.

Exemplary Staff Award

The CHS Exemplary Staff Award recognizes a staff member whose work performance and service within their employment position goes above and beyond standard expectations. To be eligible for the Exemplary Staff Award an employee must have a minimum of one year of University service at .50 FTE or greater. Nominations for this award must include a statement of endorsement from the nominee’s supervisor if not submitted by the nominee’s supervisor. Nominations should address how the nominee has consistently shown outstanding performance in any of the following areas – quality of service to students, faculty, staff or the public; initiative and leadership (formal or informal); encouraging and motivating peers/colleagues; creative and innovative problem-solving; contributing to unit cohesion.


Other awards

Vista Award

This award is not given out annually — it is only awarded when an individual arises who is a truly remarkable advocate and donor. The Vista Award is given to someone who sees how great the College of Health Sciences can be and both actively and generously supports the school in making that happen.
