Congratulations to Aaron Thompson for being named one of the 2024 Faculty and Alumni Award winners by the Mizzou Alumni Association!

Thompson is the director of the School of Social Work in the College of Health Sciences and associate director of the Missouri Prevention Science Institute. He also helped found the Boone County Schools Mental Health Coalition and the Family Access Center for Excellence (FACE) of Boone County.

Thompson is passionate about closing the mental health service gap experienced by many students in Boone County. He has been an investigator on more than $60 million in grant-funded research and published more than 75 peer-reviewed publications on effective programs and practices to promote healthy outcomes for youth across key developmental contexts.

Since Thompson was named director of the School of Social Work in 2020, research awards and expenditures for the department have more than doubled. Based on Academic Analytics data, Mizzou now ranks sixth in the nation among schools of social work at American Association of Universities institutions.

Dating back to 1968, the Mizzou Alumni Association has used the Faculty and Alumni Awards to highlight individuals who have contributed to the university’s growth and mission through professional accomplishments, teaching, research and service.
