Students selected to Rural Immersion Program

Six Health Professions students were selected to participate in the 2022 Rural Immersion Program. This year’s participants will travel to Monett, Missouri, June 21-24. The Rural Immersion Program is a four-day experience for health professions students who are interested in living and working in a rural area. This is a non-clinical experience designed to highlight the social and communal aspects of rural life. Students will break into groups that include members of each of the health care disciplines to foster a diversity of thought and experience. March 28, 2022 Burrell Behavioral Health is the Student Scholarship Sponsor for a 100-year celebration of social work at Mizzou this year. The sponsorship creates the Burrell Social Work Scholarship Endowed Fund, which will support social work students in perpetuity. Students serve Missouri through alternative breaks

March 17, 2022 Last weekend, several Health Professions students traveled to Poplar Bluff, Missouri, to serve at Cedargate Healthcare, a skilled nursing facility, on a Mizzou Alternative Breaks trip. The students spent a lot of one-on-one time with residents, crocheting with them and painting their nails. They also helped clean, did laundry, and passed out meal trays. A Brighter Tomorrow: Burrell Behavior Health partners with MU to provide tuition assistance for social workers (KOMU)

COLUMBIA – Burrell Behavioral Health is partnering with the University of Missouri to provide tuition assistance for students pursuing a master’s in social work.  The tuition assistance comes during a time of staffing shortages for mental health and health care workers. Nov. 1, 2021 Nancy Cheak-Zamora, associate professor of Health Sciences, is serving as the chair of the American Public Health Association’s Maternal and Child Health Section. How Columbia schools and FACE are teaming up to address mental health in students

In 2012, Boone County voters approved a quarter-cent sales tax, establishing the Boone County Children’s Services Fund and raising around $6.7 million annually for children’s programs. One of the programs the sales tax has funded has been Family Access Center of Excellence, operated through the University of Missouri. It provides case management for families with children and links them to services. Read the full article.
