Mizzou Steps @ The Bluffs is a service-learning opportunity available to Mizzou DPT students that offers twice-weekly group and individualized exercise classes for 4 weeks in the fall and spring semesters to residents at The Bluffs, a local nursing home.
The functional ability level of participants ranges from quite frail to near-athletic. This diversity of ability provides an excellent challenge for students to think on their feet in providing individually tailored exercises to strengthen legs and improve the balance response of participants.
Under the supervision of PT faculty members, students learn to first keep their participant safe, but above all, to challenge them in ways that improve their leg strength, dynamic balance, and confidence in their ability to manage daily functional challenges.
