The Department of Health Sciences is pleased to announce the 2022 award recipients! Winners are acknowledged for their achievements, character and commitment in DHS. Lexie Chirpich Academic Achievement Award: Lexie Chirpich The recipient of this award demonstrates academic excellence in all aspects of the Health Sciences curriculum, including grades, classroom participation, research involvement and/or lab work. The recipient takes full advantage of educational experiences in class, on campus and beyond. The Rural Immersion Program is a four-day experience for health professions students who are interested in living and working in a rural area. This is a non-clinical experience designed to highlight the social and communal aspects of rural life.

Wilson Majee named 2022–23 Fulbright Scholar

Story by Gracie Hedenberg The MU School of Health Professions is pleased to announce that Wilson Majee, associate professor of Health Sciences and Public Health, has received a Fulbright Award for the 2022–23 academic year. Dr. Majee will spend 10 months in South Africa at the University of the Western Cape, where he will split his time evenly between research and teaching students at the university.   Dr. Majee says previous studies suggest that youth who are disengaged from their communities are more likely to participate in detrimental behaviors and report poor health. April 29, 2022 Fourteen School of Health Professions students participated in the 2022 Spring Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievements Forum. Students presented research in diverse categories, including Life Sciences, Behavioral/Social Sciences, Applied Design, and Humanities. Students serve Missouri through alternative breaks

March 17, 2022 Last weekend, several Health Professions students traveled to Poplar Bluff, Missouri, to serve at Cedargate Healthcare, a skilled nursing facility, on a Mizzou Alternative Breaks trip. The students spent a lot of one-on-one time with residents, crocheting with them and painting their nails. They also helped clean, did laundry, and passed out meal trays.
