Speech-language pathology graduate program receives reaccreditation

March 21, 2022 By Kelsey Carroll As of Feb. 19, 2022, the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) voted to continue accreditation for the graduate education program in speech-language pathology at University of Missouri for a period of eight years beginning Jan. 1, 2022, through Dec. 31, 2029. Department faculty and staff have been working hard since the start of the 2020–21 academic year towards earning this accreditation renewal. The Student Training for Advanced Research (STAR) program was conceived to engage students in the high-impact practice of research. Last semester, the School of Health Professions had 12 students participate in five or more workshops offered by the Office of Undergraduate Research, making them STAR recipients! Transformational gift will help advance children’s health

A generous gift from Janet and John Farmer will continue Janet Farmer’s legacy of advancing children’s health, especially children with special health care needs.  As a long-time faculty member in the Department of Health Psychology, Janet Farmer’s research focused on ways to enhance quality of life for children with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders, with a particular interest in early intervention, health promotion and interdisciplinary care coordination.  “Dr. Farmer has dedicated her career to scholarship and clinical services to support children and their families,” said Dean Kristofer Hagglund. “The Janet and John Farmer Endowed Faculty Fund in Child Health will support outstanding faculty following in Dr. Farmer’s footsteps.”…

Alumna Claire Willard receives Excellence in Mentoring Award

 Sept. 25, 2021   Coming from Clinton, Mo. — a town of less than 10,000 people — to Mizzou was a big adjustment at first for Claire Willard (CSD ’04). But after her freshman year, she made two friends who would ultimately influence her choice of what to major in, putting her on the trajectory of becoming a speech-language pathologist.  Now, Willard serves as the Coordinator of Speech-Language Services for Columbia Public Schools, where part of her role includes helping the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences place master’s students in their school-setting outplacements. …

Oct. 6, 2021 At the Boston University Speech Motor Control Symposium, Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences PhD student Katie Threlkeld, faculty member Dr. Mili Kuruvilla-Dugdale, and Mojgan Golzy of the Department of Health Management and Informatics, were awarded with the third place Best Poster Award for their poster titled, “Can listener training improve the reliability of auditory-perceptual judgments of dysarthric speech?”.
