Wilson Majee named 2022–23 Fulbright Scholar
April 28, 2022 Story by Gracie Hedenberg The MU School of Health Professions is pleased to announce that Wilson Majee, associate professor of Health Sciences and Public Health, has received a Fulbright Award for the 2022–23 academic year. Dr. Majee will spend 10 months in South Africa at the University of the Western Cape, where he will split his time evenly between research and teaching students at the university. April 29, 2022 Fourteen School of Health Professions students participated in the 2022 Spring Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievements Forum. Gastrointestinal issues linked with anxiety, social withdrawal for kids with autism
April 26, 2022 Contact: Brian Consiglio, 573-882-9144, consigliob@missouri.edu COLUMBIA, Mo. — Children with autism spectrum disorder tend to experience gastrointestinal issues, such as constipation and stomach pain, at a higher rate than their neurotypical peers. Some also experience other internalizing symptoms at the same time, including stress, anxiety, depression and social withdrawal. Alice Townsend to become next Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound undergraduate program director
April 20, 2022 Alice Townsend has been named director of the MU undergraduate Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound (DMU) program, effective Sept. 1. She will start Aug. 8 to transition in this role before Moses Hdeib retires. “Alice comes to CDS with successful program director experience, recent clinical management experience, and familiarity with the MU DMU program,” said Kathy Moss, Clinical & Diagnostic Sciences department chair and clinical professor. “I am confident she has the tools to guide the DMU program into the future.” Townsend graduated from the MU DMU program in 2008. Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound program director to retire
April 20, 2022 Moses Hdeib, program director and clinical professor for the Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound (DMU) program, will retire Sept. 1 after 22 years of service to MU. During his tenure, Dr. Hdeib created Missouri’s first bachelor’s program for Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound, and the first master’s program for Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound in the United States. April 20, 2022 Alexandria Lewis, assistant teaching professor in the School of Social Work, received the individual Shared Governance Award from the MU Faculty Council last week. The award recognizes a member of the MU community who has made a significant contribution to shared governance. The School of Health Professions received six grants totaling $402,445 from the University of Missouri President’s “Enhancing Student Success at Mizzou” program. This funding will be used mostly to update technology and equipment in our clinical teaching labs. A life of public service: Grace Nielson
April 14, 2022 Grace Nielson, a senior from Joplin, Missouri, knew she would dedicate her life to public service after her father passed away in the line of duty. At Mizzou, Nielson has gotten involved as a member of Tour Team, a peer educator for the RVSP Center, and undergraduate student representative for the Women’s Committee for the Chancellor. She is also a Truman Fellowship Finalist and Kinder Scholar. In the future, Nielson wants to go into political social work and create and lobby for domestic violence policies.
